No Lay’s, No Summer: Chasing the Sun with Baltica Films

Last year, we had the pleasure of servicing the “No Lay’s, No Summer” TVC for the fantastic team at Baltica Films — a vibrant, sun-soaked campaign shot on location in Cape Town and directed by Keith McCarthy.

Capturing the essence of summer for a brand as iconic as Lay’s calls for a very specific kind of energy — something that feels effortless, full of life, and completely authentic. Cape Town provided the perfect canvas: expansive locations, golden light, and a natural rhythm that allowed the campaign’s world to unfold organically on screen.

Service Production at Its Core

As a service production, our role was to translate a clearly defined creative vision into a seamless, on-the-ground execution.

From early prep through to the final shoot days, the focus was on creating the right conditions for both the director and agency to fully realise the concept — balancing creative ambition with practical precision. This meant aligning locations, crew, logistics, and timing to support a production that needed to feel spontaneous, while being carefully controlled behind the scenes.

Service production is often about anticipating needs before they arise — creating a framework that allows creativity to flow without friction. On this project, that meant ensuring every moving part, from scheduling to technical setup, worked together effortlessly to maintain the energy and pace required on set.

Crafting a Summer That Feels Real

What makes a campaign like this resonate is its sense of authenticity. The goal was never to over-engineer the visuals, but rather to capture moments that feel genuine and lived-in — the kind of summer that audiences recognise instantly.

Cape Town’s versatility played a key role here, offering a range of locations that could hold that relaxed, sun-drenched atmosphere throughout. Combined with a strong creative direction, this allowed the film to maintain a consistent tone — vibrant yet natural, energetic yet grounded.

Collaboration That Carries the Production

At the heart of the project was a collaboration built on trust and shared intent.

Working closely with Baltica Films and director Keith McCarthy, the production was shaped by clear communication and a mutual understanding of the creative goal. This alignment made it possible to move efficiently, adapt where needed, and maintain momentum throughout.

Equally, the strength of the local crew played a defining role. Their dedication, technical precision, and positive spirit carried the production seamlessly from prep through to shoot — creating an environment where both creativity and execution could thrive side by side.

Bringing It All Together

Projects like this are a reminder that great service production goes beyond logistics. It’s about enabling a vision, supporting a team, and creating the space for something that feels effortless on screen — even when it’s anything but behind the scenes.

For us, it was a pleasure to partner with Baltica Films on this campaign and to help bring a piece of summer to life.
