The Craft Behind the Commercial
We had the pleasure of working on the Lindt Les Grandes commercial — a project defined by precision, where the ingredients are the hero and every detail matters. Filmed in high-speed, even the smallest interaction becomes visible, requiring a level of control and refinement that is essential in close-up product filmmaking.
For Lindt, the expectation is always to translate the premium quality of their ingredients into a visual experience that feels equally refined. Developed in close collaboration with Swiss agency Erdmannpeisker, the project was driven by a shared ambition to create sensorial, high-end imagery through carefully crafted in-camera techniques.
Precision in Motion
Directed and shot by Simon Barnes, high-speed cinematography reveals fleeting moments that would otherwise go unnoticed, transforming them into visually compelling film.
At the centre of the film are macro sequences that bring the viewer closer to the craft of the Lindt Master Chocolatier, highlighting premium ingredients as they interact with smooth, flowing chocolate. These moments depend on exact timing and positioning, where even the slightest variation becomes apparent.
Custom rigs were designed to control release, trajectory, and impact with consistency, allowing each action to be repeated and refined with precision. What appears effortless on screen is the result of carefully engineered choreography, developed through continuous testing and adjustment in close collaboration with product and SFX specialist Nic Klemp.
Equally important was shaping how the chocolate behaves on camera. Its flow and response were carefully refined to achieve a smooth, rich visual quality while maintaining a natural, believable presence that stays true to the product.
A Cohesive Approach Across the Campaign
Simon Barnes directed both the high-speed product work and the on-location scenes, creating a seamless connection between the product and its consumption moments, with a strong focus on performance. This continuity extended into the stills campaign, resulting in a unified visual identity across motion and photography.
